Event Organisers

The Vikings exists to educate and entertain our audiences with displays focused on the life of the Vikings and the peoples of Britain who came into contact with them. At events across the country, a combination of a period encampment and arena displays are used to help bring the period to life, showing as much of the culture and everyday activities of the people of Britain as we can in a transitory setting. With major events from Spring to Autumn each year, and ranging in size from a handful of people to the huge re-enactments of the Battle of Hastings, our clients have included English Heritage, Historic Scotland, CADW, the National Trust, and many others.

Our group's activities were originally only on the combat side of the society, but over the years we have also developed a collection of craft and village display skills, and a core of members who play characters in dramatic presentations within the display area.

Ousekjarr owns twelve period tents and an awning which is used as a communal shelter during the event, as well as numerous items of camp equipment for cooking, eating and storage.

As well as participating in our group's activities, our members have also held a number of positions in the national society.

In 2005, Ousekjarr were awarded the trophy for Best Living History Display within The Vikings, and in 2013 and 2018 were the recipients of the George Hay Memorial Award for the best Herred.

about us

Ousekjarr is the Cambridgeshire group of The Vikings, a national society which re-enacts the period from 793 to 1066 across the UK. Ousekjarr was founded in 1994, and now has members in most areas of England. We attend re-enactment events across the UK and occasionally beyond, working for clients such as English Heritage, the National Trust, museums and heritage organisations.
